Hushpuppies
These Southern Hush Puppies are made with Loveless Cafe Cornmeal Breading, the same blend we use and serve in our Nashville kitchen. Inspired by Annie Loveless’s original recipe, they’re golden, crispy, and full of that classic down-home flavor that’s been a Loveless Cafe favorite for decades.

- Mix together Cornmeal Breading, all purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, granulated garlic, and white pepper in a large bowl
- Add eggs and buttermilk and mix until a batter is formed.
- Add in sweet corn, sweet white onion, and green onion until evenly distributed.
- Rest batter for 20 minutes before frying.
- Pre-heat oil to 325° to 350°.
- Frying in batches, scoop golf ball-sized rounds (about 2 tablespoons each) of the batter into the oil.
- Once the Hushpuppies begin to float, use a spoon to flip and keep them submerged to cook both sides.
- Cook until golden brown about 2 to 4 minutes.
- Drain on a cooling rack or a lined baking sheet to catch extra oil.
- Serve warm.
