Fried Okra

Crispy, golden, and full of Southern flavor, this Fried Okra is made with Loveless Cafe Cornmeal Breading, the same mix we use in our Nashville kitchen. It’s the perfect easy side dish for any meal, delivering that signature crunch in every bite.

Servings: 8

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Slice okra into small pieces, 1/4 to 1/2-inch.
  2. Wash the okra and transfer to a bowl, leaving the okra wet.
  3. Mix together Cornmeal Breading, Flour, Salt, and Pepper.
  4. Dip okra in buttermilk then place in strainer before dredging in cornmeal mixture.
  5. Pour the dry mixture over the okra and shake until the okra is evenly covered
  6. Melt shortening and bacon grease or butter in skillet on medium to medium-high heat. The oil should not fully cover the okra.
  7. When the oil is hot, add some okra and fry in batches, stirring frequently until brown and crispy.
  8. Remove okra from the skillet with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
