Inspired by Annie Loveless’s original recipe, this classic dish delivers that signature crunch and homemade flavor that’s been a Loveless favorite for generations.

- Heat oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet.
- Pour buttermilk into a shallow dish.
- In a bowl, mix together cornmeal and flour then pour into a second shallow dish or pie plate.
- Dip tomato slices into buttermilk then dredge in the cornmeal mixture.
- Fry in batches until browned, approximately 3 to 5 minutes on each side.
- Enjoy on a BLT, as an appetizer, or as a side dish with a little pimento cheese on top.
