The Loveless Cafe Turns 75!
There was a time when folks used to slow down and enjoy life, and that time still exists here at the Loveless Cafe. For 75 years we have been honored to be a Nashville tradition for families and friends to gather and reconnect around the table. Our story begins in 1951, when Lon and Annie Loveless opened their front doors to serve fried chicken and fresh biscuits to hungry travelers on Highway 100. The very next year, in 1952, the couple expanded their hospitality by building a 14-room motel, welcoming overnight guests to rest and recharge after enjoying a full Southern meal. Lon stayed busy managing the motel and smoking country hams, while Annie worked her magic in the kitchen, baking biscuits and stirring up preserves that quickly became world-renowned.

Beyond our roadside beginnings …
Over time, the Loveless Cafe grew beyond its roadside beginnings. In 1982, we launched our mail-order business, sending biscuits, preserves, smoked meats, and Southern staples straight to kitchens across the country. By 2004, demand for our famous smoked meats had grown so much that we built a brand new smokehouse, ensuring that tradition stayed alive for generations to come. The growth didn’t stop there. In 2009, the Loveless Barn was built, giving us a beautiful new venue to host weddings, celebrations, and community events infused with Southern charm. And in 2020, the Loveless Cafe was officially named a Nashville Historic Marker, a humbling recognition of our place in the city’s story. Today, our iconic neon sign welcomes more than half a million visitors every year. Guests come from near and far to slow down, savor home-cooked Southern favorites, and share in the warmth of our hospitality. On any given day, our biscuit bakers will bake up to 10,000 biscuits, the same biscuits that put us on the map back in Annie’s kitchen!
ROOTED IN TRADITION
While the motel rooms have since been transformed into quaint shops filled with Southern gifts, the heart of the Loveless Cafe hasn’t changed a bit. We’re still serving the same recipes that fuels laughter, love, and long conversations. Our Loveless Events team now brings that same hospitality to gatherings both on-site in the Barn and Harpeth Room, and off-site across Nashville through our catering and food truck. From national TV spotlights on The Today Show and CBS News to being named one of the South’s Best Breakfast Spots by Southern Living and a Top Down-Home Dining Spot by USA Today, stories of the Loveless Cafe continue to be told around the world! Through it all, one thing has remained the same since 1951: at the Loveless Cafe, our guests are family. Every meal we serve is rooted in the same spirit of Southern hospitality that Lon and Annie started all those years ago, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
