For 75 years, the Loveless Cafe has been serving made-from-scratch Southern favorites to locals and travelers along Highway 100. But during this year’s Dine Nashville celebration, something extraordinary happened inside our historic cafe walls.

For the first time in our history, fine dining entered the Loveless Cafe, and it was nothing short of magical! In collaboration with Michelin-star award winning Locust, Chef Scott Peck and Chef Trevor Moran joined forces to create a one-night-only culinary experience that blended refined technique with deeply rooted Southern tradition. A true Nashville chef collaboration honoring both innovation and heritage.

A Warm Welcome in the Harpeth Room

The evening began in our Harpeth Room with welcome beverages and live music from Mitch Predella, setting the tone for what would become a seamless and unforgettable experience.

Guests sipped on:

  • A Bloody Mary featuring horseradish-infused moonshine
  • A spiked huckleberry sweet tea

Passed appetizers included:

  • Bay Water Sweet Oysters from Washington state, served with Stu’s hot sauce
  • Skinny Tim, Locust’s house-made paprika-seasoned pork salami with parsley sauce (think Slim Jim’s elevated cousin)
  • Deviled eggs smoked over real Tennessee Hickory Wood and  topped with candied country-smoked bacon

The energy was warm, welcoming, and uniquely Nashville!

Biscuits… With a Surprise

Then, guests were invited into the cafe for the seated dinner portion of the evening.

The meal began the Loveless way: with hot biscuits, of course! Our biscuits were paired with chef Ariel’s crumpets, served with brown butter and our three famous preserves — blackberry, peach, and strawberry.

And then… the surprise. Caviar service!

We’re pretty sure Lon and Annie Loveless never imagined caviar would one day sit pretty on top of their biscuits. But honestly? We think they would’ve gotten a kick out of it. Tradition with a twist, you know? Southern hospitality with a little sparkle.

It was the perfect representation of this historic collaboration!

A Menu That Blended Southern Tradition with Culinary Artistry

This Dine Nashville chef collaboration menu was thoughtfully curated to highlight both restaurants’ strengths and included an eight-course menu.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Served with sharp cheddar pimento cheese, a Loveless staple elevated with Locust finesse.

Honey Fire Smoked Frog Legs with Traditional Greens

Unexpected, bold, and beautifully balanced! These frog legs were reminiscent of Frog Leg Fridays that we used to host in the Cafe some time ago, and were covered in a combination of our Nashville Hot Sauce and honey fire seasonings we use on our weekly special!

“Chutoros Locos Tacos Supreme”

Thinly sliced fatty tuna belly (chutoro) layered between crisp crackers with horseradish and “sauce Gary,” a creamy chili oil. Light, playful, and packed with flavor.

Nashville Hot Swordfish & Crab Mac n’ Cheese

Locust’s take on Nashville hot fish featured panko-fried swordfish doused in house-made chili oil and paired with sour cream & onion, local honeycomb, and Loveless Cafe’s marinated onion & cucumbers. Alongside it: Crab mac and cheese made with smoked Gubbeen cheese from Cork, Ireland. Rich, smoky, and downright unforgettable!

BBQ Onion

A smoked onion stuffed with stewed onion cream, charred on the outside and finished with smoked crouton and black truffle. Guests were encouraged to scoop from the inside, that’s where all the good stuff is!

A Sweet Southern Finale

Dessert was a showstopper.

Loveless’ peach turnover with pecan pie caramel and Jack Daniel’s whiskey dust was paired with Locust’s Vinegar Pie Shaved Ice, a playful nod to old Southern pantry desserts born from necessity.

Layers included:

  • Crème brûlée cream
  • Honeycomb candy
  • Salted caramel
  • Passionfruit gummies
  • Earl Grey mousse
  • Malted vinegar and caramel powder

It was nostalgic and innovative all at once, much like the evening itself.

Celebrating 75 Years of Loveless Cafe

This collaboration wasn’t just about food. It was about celebrating Nashville’s culinary story. A love letter to traditional Southern cooking of the past and the innovative cuisine of the future.

Since 1951, Loveless Cafe has remained rooted in scratch-made recipes and genuine Southern warmth. Inviting fine dining into our historic cafe for the first time was both humbling and exciting. It reminded us that even after 75 years, there is still room to surprise, to innovate, and to grow.

Working alongside the incredibly talented Locust team was an honor, and this once-in-a-lifetime Dine Nashville experience will forever be part of our story.

Here’s to biscuits, bold ideas, and the next 75 years.
