Orange Cream Milk

Orange creamsicles are popular in their own right, a summertime favorite for kids frequenting the neighborhood pool after a visit to the ice cream truck. The tangy orange flavor somehow pairs perfectly with the creaminess of milk and makes for a pretty darn delicious treat. But if you’ve ever accidentally combined citrus and cream together, you’ve probably noticed some pretty unappetizing curdling going on. The orange flavor in this recipe is derived from fresh orange zest, which packs all the flavor without the juice. After the mixture is strained, you’re left with a refreshing orange-flavored milk that you’ll absolutely love!

n a saucepan on medium heat, combine sugar, zest and water. Cover and simmer over low heat for 10, minutes before removing cover and letting simmer for another 5-10 until water is reduced by one third. Strain through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. In a blender, combine strained syrup, food coloring (optional) and milk and blend well. Chill well before serving.
